Deep Roots in our Community.

Nick Perkins grew up right outside of Decatur in Hillsboro, and has lived in North Alabama all his life. The son of an educator and a custodian, Nick and his two siblings were raised with strong family values, and attended church service twice per week. Like so many, he grew up in a community that looked out for one another, and that was especially true for the children. Today, Nick and his wife Angie are raising their children with these same values. Nick is committed to making sure that Decatur is the kind of place where every child have their best chance to succeed.

Ready to get the job done

Nick Perkins has the right experience to create a better Decatur. He works for Decatur Youth Services, where he coordinates mentorship programs and teaches workforce development skills. He believes Decatur workers and kids in difficult situations need the skills to learn, thrive, and eventually get a good paying job. Perkins is also a former campus safety officer with Alabama A&M University Police, where he learned the value of public safety and public trust.

Nick’s Plan

Decatur is at a crossroads. While North Alabama thrives, failed leadership holds our city back. Nick Perkins is running for City Council to change that—moving Decatur toward a brighter future.

Building an Opportunity Economy

All too often, Decatur residents are forced to travel outside of our community to access careers and key quality of life amenities. Nick Perkins believes that our city does best when everyone has the opportunities they need to succeed, and he is committed to bringing investment into Decatur. As your voice on the City Council, Nick Perkins will

  • Recruit good paying jobs into District 1 by investing in workforce development programs and developing high quality amenities to attract them.

  • Build a school-to-work pipeline in Decatur by expanding mentorship and workforce development programs, just like the ones he leads now.

  • Attract new developments that reinvigorate our city, providing residents with higher quality amenities closer to home.

  • Make Decatur a great place to start and run a small business by giving our entrepreneurs a seat at the table.

Making Smarter Investments

Decatur residents have lost faith in the city’s ability to manage hard-earned tax dollars. Nick Perkins is committed to making smarter investments to improve quality of life. As City Councilor, Nick will

  • Advocate for a budget audit to improve efficiency, identifying and cutting wasteful spending

  • Adopt a long-term approach to our city’s finances to make certain that we operate responsibly.

  • Focus on commercial, industrial, and office development to expand and diversify the city’s tax base without increasing costs for residents.

Re-uniting Decatur

Nick Perkins understands as well as anyone that Decatur needs to heal. Our community is deeply divided, and leaders have abandoned us when we needed them most. Nick is committed to restoring confidence in City Hall and ushering in a positive new atmosphere. As your representative on the City Council, Nick will

  • Commit to transparency and accessibility by holding town hall meetings, and instituting an open door policy to listen to your concerns.

  • Bring stakeholders and community leaders together, making certain that folks have a seat at the table when decisions are being made.

  • Practice Servant leadership and represent the city with new and positive energy, restoring pride in our community.
